Biography
Joshua Harrison was born around 1826 in Garstang, England. His father’s name was Joseph, but it’s unknown who his mother was.
In 1847, Joshua married Jane O’Neal of Manchester, who worked as a silk handloom weaver. The couple had four sons and two daughters. During this time, Joshua worked as a Shoemaker. A 24-year old servant names Henry Travis lived with them at the time of 1851 census – he was recorded as working as a Clogger as well, possibly as an apprentice under Joshua. At some point during the following decade the family relocated from Garstang to Manchester.
The oldest son, Joseph Harper, followed in his father’s footsteps for several years and worked as a Clogger before immigrating to Canada with his first wife. It is unknown whether Joseph and Jane Harrison followed their son to Canada or remained in England.
