The Lorimer surname originated in England, and is an occupational name, referring to those who make the metal parts of horse harnesses.

At some point before 1871, our branch of the family settled in Glasgow, Scotland, Where Thomas Lorimer was born. His son Dugald came to Canada in 1924.
